Ad Darwa, often written Deroua, lies on the flat Chaouia plain in the Casablanca-Settat region. It sits between Casablanca and Berrechid. From above, it is a town in the middle of expansion, with a small older core and a growing ring of newer housing districts laid out in regular grids.
Its position explains its shape. Major roads and rail connections running south from Casablanca pass nearby, and the town has grown as part of the metropolitan area's outer belt. On the map, new estates meet open farmland abruptly, and straight lines of plots and streets push out into the fields.
