Albi's historic centre sits on a rise along the south bank of the Tarn. It is a dense cluster of narrow, irregular streets, in contrast with the more open districts beyond. At its northern edge, facing the river, stands the Cathedral of Sainte-Cécile, one of the largest brick buildings in the world. On a map it appears as a single large block where the tight grain of the old town meets the water.
Bridges link the centre to the Madeleine district on the opposite bank. The oldest, the Pont Vieux, dates from the eleventh century and is still in use. The Episcopal City, which takes in the cathedral, the Palais de la Berbie and the surrounding quarters, was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2010. Beyond this core, wider boulevards loosely encircle the old streets.
Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec was born in Albi, and the Palais de la Berbie beside the cathedral houses the museum devoted to his work. An Albi map poster gathers the river, the bridges and the old town into a clean black-and-white composition. In it, the scale of the cathedral against the surrounding streets reads clearly.
The brick cathedral occupies a large footprint at the edge of the old town above the Tarn. Its solid shape anchors the composition and draws the eye first.
Built in the eleventh century, the old bridge crosses the Tarn beside a newer one. Together they link the historic centre with the Madeleine district on the north bank.
The UNESCO-listed core of cathedral, palace and medieval quarters forms a tight, irregular street pattern, clearly set apart from the more spacious neighbourhoods around it.

Ko e hā ʻa Albi
Albi appeals to people who have walked its brick streets, studied at its university or stood on the bridge looking back at the cathedral. The map keeps the proportions of that view in plan form, a precise record of a small city with an unusually strong centre.
The poster can carry a personal title, a subtitle such as a date or dedication, and the coordinates you choose. Paper and Sand suit the warm brick of the city, and all five styles are available. Buy it as $9 HD files or as a printed poster with an optional wooden frame.
