Alnavar is in the Dharwad district of northern Karnataka, close to where the open plateau begins to rise toward the forested Western Ghats. On a map, the town is a modest cluster of streets organised around the railway, with roads leading out into farmland on one side and toward wooded country on the other. It is a small place, but its position gives it character.
The town is best known as a railway junction. The line from Hubballi toward Londa and Goa passes through, and a branch leaves from here toward Dandeli, a town known for its forests and the Kali River. That junction gives Alnavar's plan its main structure: tracks and yards running across it, and the town growing on both sides.
An Alnavar map poster shows the railway lines splitting at the junction, the compact grid of streets around the station and the roads fading into the landscape. In monochrome, the shift from the tidy plan to the looser rural roads is easy to see. It is a map of a crossing point between the plateau and the hills.
The tracks divide at Alnavar, one line toward Londa and the coast, another toward Dandeli. On the poster the fork is the defining feature, a clean branching shape across the town.
The streets closest to the station form the densest part of town. Their blocks cluster around the railway land, marking how the junction shaped growth.
West of town, roads head into more wooded, rolling ground. The map gradually becomes sparser, hinting at the forested hills beyond the frame.
