Annemasse lies on the French side of the Swiss frontier, so close to Geneva that on a map the two street networks meet without a pause. The town's boulevards and residential blocks spread across a fairly flat basin, while the Arve passes along its south-western side and the long ridge of the Salève rises beyond, closing off the view toward the south-west.
The railway is the backbone of the plan. Tracks fan out from the station toward Geneva, Évian and the Arve valley, and since the Léman Express opened in 2019 Annemasse has been one of the key stops on the cross-border network. On the map, those lines divide neighbourhoods into clear wedges, each with its own pattern of streets and squares.
An Annemasse map poster captures a town defined by adjacency: a French centre, a Swiss neighbour, mountains on the horizon and a river close by. Printed in fine black line, the frontier itself is invisible, which is exactly how many residents experience it every day, crossing back and forth for work, shopping and family without much thought.
Along the northern and western edges, Annemasse's roads run straight into the suburbs of Geneva. The poster shows one continuous urban fabric where a national border quietly runs.
Several railway lines converge on the central station and radiate outward, giving the composition strong diagonal strokes that cut through the rounder shapes of the residential blocks.
To the south-west, the Arve and the foot of the Salève mark where the dense street network thins out into green slopes, riverbanks and quieter lanes.
