Apizaco is a city in the central highlands of Tlaxcala, Mexico's smallest state, well over 2,000 metres above sea level. It grew in the nineteenth century around the railway between Mexico City and Veracruz, and the map still shows it. A fairly regular grid of blocks is laid out beside the tracks, and the rail corridor draws a long line through the urban area.
The railway is still central to local identity, and a locomotive stands as a monument in the city. South of Apizaco the ground rises gradually toward La Malinche, the large volcano that dominates the Tlaxcala horizon. Farmland and neighbouring towns fill the plain in between.
An Apizaco map poster shows a city whose plan was shaped by an industry rather than by a river or a fortress. The grid, the tracks and the roads fanning out toward Tlaxcala and Huamantla make a clear, balanced image. It works well at any of the print sizes, from a small A3 to a large 24×36 inch sheet.
The line that created the city runs straight through it. The station area and the tracks form the strongest linear element on the poster.
Blocks laid out in the railway era give the centre a tidy, rectilinear pattern that reads clearly in black and white.
To the south the land rises toward the volcano, and the urban pattern thins into fields and scattered settlements on its lower slopes.

Ko e hā ʻa Apizaco
People from Apizaco often describe it through the railway, and a map makes that history visible without a single word of explanation. It is a considered gift for someone who has moved away or whose family worked on the line.
Give the poster your own title, a subtitle such as a date, and a coordinates line, then choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. A free watermarked preview comes first, and the $9 digital files have no watermark.
