Baardheere lies in the Gedo region of southwestern Somalia, on the Jubba River. On a map, the river is the defining element: it flows through a dry, flat landscape, and the town gathers along its banks, where water makes farming and settlement possible.
The town itself is compact. A cluster of streets and tracks lies near the river, with roads leading out towards other towns in the region. Along the water, cultivated plots follow the bank, while further away the land becomes open and sparsely settled.
The site has long been considered for a large dam on the Jubba, a project discussed for decades. A Baardheere map poster shows a simple and powerful relationship between a river and the town that depends on it, and it makes a meaningful print for people with family roots in Gedo.
The river passes the town in wide curves, a lifeline through dry country and the strongest line on the map.
Cultivated land follows the watercourse, a narrow band of agriculture that contrasts with the open plains beyond.
Several routes leave the town towards other settlements in Gedo, drawing long straight lines across the sparse landscape.

For Somali families living away from Gedo, a map of Baardheere is a way of keeping the river and the town present at home. It is also a thoughtful gift for relatives who remember the place well.
