Badāmibāgh lies on the southeastern side of Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir, in the broad valley of the Jhelum River. It is best known as the site of the Badami Bagh Cantonment, a major army base. From above, its layout differs visibly from the dense old city nearby: roads are straighter and blocks larger, with generous open spaces between them.
The Jhelum winds past on its way through Srinagar, and the flat valley floor is framed by mountains on the horizon. The name, meaning almond garden, recalls the orchards once associated with this part of the valley. On a map, the combination of river curves and the regular cantonment grid creates a striking contrast.
A Badāmibāgh map poster highlights that contrast. The river provides a flowing, organic line, while the cantonment streets and grounds form a calm, ordered pattern. Together they make a clear, balanced composition that reflects the particular character of this part of Srinagar.
Straight roads, larger blocks and wide open grounds give this area a regular, spacious pattern that stands out clearly against the tightly packed streets of old Srinagar.
The river curves through the valley close by, adding a strong, winding line to the map and linking the area with the rest of Srinagar.
Badāmibāgh means almond garden, a reference to the orchards once linked to this part of the Kashmir valley, and a fitting name for an area with so much open ground.
