Baependi lies in the south of Minas Gerais, in hilly country near the Serra da Mantiqueira. On the map, the town follows the valley floor and the lower slopes around it, with its older streets climbing uphill from the centre and the surrounding hills drawn as open, rolling land.
The town dates from the colonial period and keeps a historic centre with churches and old houses. It is best known as the home of Nhá Chica, Francisca de Paula de Jesus, a local woman beatified by the Catholic Church in 2013, whose sanctuary attracts many visitors.
A Baependi map poster shows the town's irregular, organic layout, with streets bending to follow the terrain rather than a grid. The river and the hills around it frame the composition, giving it a soft and natural shape.
The old town keeps a colonial street pattern of short, winding streets that climb from the valley floor.
A river runs through the valley, and the town's main streets follow its course between the surrounding hills.
The sanctuary dedicated to Blessed Nhá Chica is a centre of pilgrimage and one of the town's best-known places.
