Bafoulabé lies in the Kayes Region of western Mali, at one of the most significant river junctions in West Africa. Here the Bafing and the Bakoy rivers meet to form the Senegal River. The town's name is usually explained as meaning the meeting of two rivers, and the map makes that meaning plain.
From above, the rivers dominate. Two broad channels approach from different directions and merge into one, and the town occupies the land beside the confluence. The street pattern is modest: a loose network of roads and lanes, with more open ground and scattered compounds toward the edges. The dry savanna surrounds it.
A Bafoulabé map poster is essentially a portrait of water in an arid landscape. Two lines of river come together, one larger river leaves, and a small town stands at the junction. The composition is simple and strong, and it carries real geographic meaning for anyone who knows the Senegal basin.
The Bafing and the Bakoy meet at Bafoulabé to form the Senegal River. On the poster, the joining channels form a clear Y shape that anchors the whole design.
The town's streets occupy the land near the meeting of the rivers. The settlement looks small against the width of the water, which gives the map a strong sense of scale.
Beyond the town and the riverbanks, the map opens into sparse terrain with few roads. The empty space around the rivers makes their shapes even more striking.

Few towns can say that a major river begins at their doorstep. For people from Bafoulabé and the Kayes region, this map records both home and a landmark of West African geography.
