Bāngarda lies on the western edge of Indore, in Madhya Pradesh, close to the city's airport. It was once a separate village, but as Indore expanded, it became part of the urban area. Today it is a mixture of older lanes, newer residential colonies and roads leading into the city.
The airport is the defining feature of the area on a map. Its long runway and taxiways form bold, straight shapes that contrast with the smaller streets around them. Around the airport, the landscape is a patchwork of housing, open plots and farmland, some of it gradually being built on.
