Village cores
Several former villages are still visible as small tangles of older lanes, each surrounded by later housing. On the map they appear as denser knots spread across the municipality, not as a single centre.

Baunatal does not have a single old core. The town was created in the 1960s by joining several villages along the small Bauna stream. From above you can still see them as separate clusters of streets, each with its own irregular historic centre. Newer housing, schools and shopping areas, laid out in wider and more planned curves, join them together.
The largest shape on the map is the Volkswagen plant, a vast rectangle of halls and yards that sits apart from the residential streets and dwarfs everything else in the frame. Motorway links and rail sidings run around it. The contrast between that industrial block and the finely textured village cores makes a Baunatal map poster read very differently from a typical small German town.
Fields fill the spaces between the districts, and wooded North Hessian hills rise beyond the western edge, so the town's boundaries are soft rather than sharp. Kassel lies just to the north, close enough that the two urban areas nearly touch. The plant is one of Volkswagen's large German sites and has long shaped the town's working life and its fast growth after the war.
Several former villages are still visible as small tangles of older lanes, each surrounded by later housing. On the map they appear as denser knots spread across the municipality, not as a single centre.
The factory grounds form the biggest single footprint in the town, a geometric block of buildings, parking and rail lines that looks almost like an abstract pattern in black and white.
Fields, allotments and the Bauna stream corridor run between the districts. They leave open white space that separates the built-up clusters and gives the whole composition air.

Ko e hā ʻa Baunatal
A map of Baunatal often means something to people who worked at the plant or grew up in one of its districts and still call it by its old village name. The layout shows how the town came together, which makes it a thoughtful gift for a move, a retirement or a new home.
