Beloit sits on the Rock River at the southern edge of Wisconsin, right on the Illinois state line, where its streets run straight on into South Beloit. The river flows north to south through the city, and on a map it divides Beloit into two parts linked by several bridges.
The downtown lies close to the river, with a regular grid that spreads out on both banks. Turtle Creek joins the Rock River from the east, adding a winding line of green to the city's layout, while newer neighbourhoods fill the higher ground at the edges.
