Bilohorodka lies just west of Kyiv, close to the Irpin River. From above, it is a spread-out settlement of long residential streets, private plots and gardens, much of it newer housing built as the capital's suburbs expanded. The streets follow the gentle slope of the land, and green gaps separate the different neighbourhoods.
The Irpin valley runs nearby, with its meanders, wetlands and patches of woodland contrasting with the regular garden plots. Roads link the village to Kyiv and the neighbouring settlements, and fields and small forests fill the ground in between. The overall picture is open and green, with housing spread thinly across the land.
Bilohorodka stands on the site of Bilhorod Kyivskyi, a fortified town of Kyivan Rus founded in the time of Volodymyr the Great, and traces of its earthworks survive. The Bilohorodka map poster puts that long past side by side with the village's recent growth. In black and white, the river valley and garden streets make a calm, open print.
The river's meanders and marshy banks run near the village, a soft, organic shape beside the more regular streets.
Long residential lanes lined with private plots spread across the village, giving the map a fine, even texture.
The village sits on the site of Bilhorod Kyivskyi, a fortified town of Kyivan Rus, one of the oldest places around Kyiv.
