Boyarka is a town in Kyiv Oblast, just southwest of the capital, and part of the ring of suburban towns around it. Much of the surrounding land is pine and mixed forest, and on the map the town appears as a set of residential districts separated by woodland, with ponds and small streams in between.
A railway runs through Boyarka toward Kyiv, and the town grew around its station as a place for country houses and, later, as a commuter suburb. It is known from Nikolai Ostrovsky's novel How the Steel Was Tempered, in which the construction of a narrow-gauge railway near Boyarka for firewood deliveries is a central episode.
