Büren lies in the Paderborn district of North Rhine-Westphalia, on the edge of the Sauerland uplands, where the Alme and Afte rivers meet. The historic centre is compact and sits on higher ground above the valley. The skyline is marked by the Baroque Jesuit church of Maria Immaculata. Wewelsburg triangle
