Bystrc is a district on the northwestern edge of Brno, the Czech Republic's second city. It sits beside the Brno Reservoir, a long body of water on the river Svratka that stretches upstream through forested hills and is a popular place for swimming, sailing and walks.
The map shows two distinct faces. Near the river is the old village core, with irregular streets, while on the higher ground are large housing estates with the regular blocks of late twentieth-century planning. Brno Zoo occupies part of the wooded slopes, and trams connect the district to the city centre.
