Rivers at the confluence
The Ostravice runs north through the middle of the city to join the Oder, which also takes in the Opava nearby, so three water lines converge in the upper part of the map.

Ko e mape
Ostrava does not gather around a single core. Seen from above, it is a patchwork of former mining settlements joined by rail lines and wide roads, with the Ostravice, Opava and Oder rivers meeting within its northern districts. The old centre of Moravian Ostrava sits on the west bank of the Ostravice, while Silesian Ostrava rises on the opposite side, a division that once marked a historic border.
For much of the twentieth century this was the country's centre of coal and steel. The blast furnaces of Lower Vítkovice now stand as a preserved industrial area with a concert hall built into a former gas holder, and Landek hill in the north is linked with the region's early mining. Poruba, the post-war district to the west, was planned around a grand boulevard and an arched gateway.
An Ostrava map poster reads well precisely because of this looseness: river corridors, rail yards, spoil heaps and green gaps between districts give the composition air. The digital HD files cost $9 and include six print sizes, each as a 300 DPI PNG and a print-ready PDF, or you can order a printed poster on matte paper with an optional wooden frame.
The Ostravice runs north through the middle of the city to join the Oder, which also takes in the Opava nearby, so three water lines converge in the upper part of the map.
The former ironworks south-east of the centre appear as a dense block of industrial footprints and rail sidings, now a cultural area around preserved blast furnaces.
West of the centre, Poruba's post-war housing is laid out along a long, formal main avenue, a geometric contrast to the irregular mining settlements elsewhere in the city.

Ko e hā ʻa Ostrava
People who grew up in Ostrava often have a complicated affection for it, and a plain map suits that: it shows the rivers, rail and districts without romanticising the smokestacks. It works for former students, miners' families and anyone who moved away and still knows which tram goes where.
You can add your own title, subtitle and coordinates line, a date for a move or a wedding, and choose among five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. A free 900 px watermarked preview lets you check the framing first.
