Cambé lies on the gently rolling plateau of northern Paraná, directly west of Londrina, and on a map the two cities almost touch. The core follows a regular grid of blocks, the kind laid out quickly during the planned settlement of this region in the first half of the twentieth century. Newer neighbourhoods extend the pattern outward in patches set at slightly different angles.
Land companies opened up the area by selling lots to settlers, many of them European immigrants, and farming on the region's well-known red soil shaped the early economy. The town's first name, Nova Dantzig, comes from that period of settlement. Today the main roads and the industrial areas along the route to Londrina define much of the town's edge.
A Cambé map poster shows a place where city blocks give way suddenly to fields. Around the dense grid run the thin lines of rural roads, small streams cutting shallow valleys through the plateau, and the long road linking the town to its larger neighbour. To the east, Cambé's streets run almost without a break into the western districts of Londrina, so the map shows a town reaching toward a larger city along the main road.
