Cầu Diễn lies on the western side of Hanoi, in an area that long marked the line between the capital and its rural surroundings. Its name comes from a bridge on National Route 32, the road that leads west out of the city, at the point where it crosses the Nhuệ River. On a map the river and the highway form a clear cross that organises everything around them.
Around this crossing the urban pattern is typical of fast-growing Hanoi. Narrow lanes and alleys branch off the main roads and divide the ground into small, dense blocks, while new residential projects and wider avenues bring in more regular shapes. Former village cores are still visible as tighter clusters of streets, now absorbed into a continuous city.
For people who live or study in the western districts, this is everyday ground: the bridge, the shops along the highway and the alleys behind them. A Cầu Diễn map poster turns that familiar grid into something calm and deliberate, a record of a neighbourhood that has changed quickly in recent decades.
The bridge that gives Cầu Diễn its name carries National Route 32 over the Nhuệ River, forming the central meeting point of water and road on the map.
The main road runs through the area toward central Hanoi, a strong line lined on both sides by dense rows of buildings and the side streets that branch from it.
Behind the main roads, tight networks of alleys and small lanes fill the blocks. They give the poster the intricate, fine texture typical of Hanoi's residential neighbourhoods.
