Çayeli lies on the eastern Black Sea coast in Rize Province, where the mountains come down almost to the water. The town is pressed into a narrow strip: the coastal highway and the shoreline form its seaward edge, while streets behind it climb quickly into the hills. On the map, the result is a long, thin settlement with short roads reaching inland.
The Rize region is the heart of Turkish tea growing, and the slopes around Çayeli are covered with terraced tea gardens. The area is also known for copper mining, which has been an important part of the local economy alongside tea and fishing.
A Çayeli map poster shows the character of the eastern Black Sea in a single frame. The clean line of the coast, the ribbon of the highway and the tight, climbing street pattern behind it tell the story of a town that has made the most of very little flat land.
The coast runs along one side of the poster as a long, smooth edge, giving the whole composition its strong horizontal line.
The Black Sea coastal road follows the shore through town, a clear band separating the sea from the built-up area.
Streets turn inland and rise into steep slopes, thinning quickly into winding roads that serve the tea gardens above the town.

For people from Rize who live in Istanbul, Germany or further away, a map of Çayeli brings back the sea on one side and the tea hills on the other. It is a very specific kind of home.
