Chinch'ŏn, usually written Jincheon today, is a county seat in North Chungcheong in the middle of South Korea. The town lies in a basin surrounded by low wooded hills, with streams running through the valley floor. From above, the centre is a compact cluster of streets along the river, with farmland and small villages spread along the valleys around it.
Jincheon is known in Korea as the home of the Jincheon National Training Center, the large complex where the country's national athletes prepare for international competition. The county is also known as the birthplace of Kim Yu-sin, the Silla general. Together these give a quiet rural county an unusually wide recognition.
A Chinch'ŏn map poster shows the way Korean inland towns fit into their terrain.
