Chonglong lies in the central Sichuan Basin, a region of low, rolling hills, terraced fields and small rivers. From above, the town is a modest cluster of streets set among irregular green land, with roads that bend around hills rather than running in straight lines.
The wider area is typical of rural Sichuan: farmland covers most of the land, villages are scattered across the slopes, and ponds and small reservoirs dot the countryside. The town serves as a local centre for the villages around it, and its layout reflects that role, with a denser core and roads radiating outward.
