Ciudad de Armería sits on the flat coastal lowland of Colima, a short distance inland from the Pacific. From above, the town is a compact grid of short blocks, laid out on land that barely rises. Around it the pattern changes to farmland: long rectangular plots, orchard rows and irrigation lines run toward the sea, which gives the map its strong horizontal lines.
The town takes its name from the Armería River, which comes down from the interior and crosses the plain to reach the ocean. On a map the river shows as a loose, braided line with a wide bed. The municipality also runs down to the coast, where the long, straight beach at Cuyutlán and the lagoon behind it add a thin band of water along the edge.
A Ciudad de Armería map poster shows that meeting of town, river and sea at a scale where it all fits on one sheet. The streets form a tight block in the middle, the fields spread out around it and the shoreline closes off the south. In black and white, the lagoon and the ocean give the design a quiet weight.
The river crosses the coastal plain in a broad, loosely braided channel. On the poster it makes an irregular line that stands out against the regular town grid and the straight field boundaries.
Within the municipality, the Pacific coast runs almost straight for a long stretch, with a lagoon lying behind the beach. Together they form two parallel bands of water at the edge of the map.
Outside the town, plots and orchard rows are laid out in long rectangles. Even without any buildings, this agricultural pattern gives the surrounding area a clear graphic texture.
