Closepet is the colonial name for Ramanagara, a town in Karnataka named after Sir Barry Close, a British officer of the early nineteenth century. On a map, the town is stretched along the main road between Bengaluru and Mysuru. Commercial streets line the road, and residential neighbourhoods spread out on both sides.
The Arkavathi River passes near the town, and huge granite hills rise from the surrounding land. On the map these hills appear as open, irregular shapes that roads curve around. One of them, Ramadevarabetta, became famous as the location of the film Sholay.
Ramanagara is often called the silk town, and it has one of the largest silk cocoon markets in India. A Closepet map poster shows a town defined by the main road and the rocks around it, where a trading centre sits among ancient granite outcrops.
Large granite outcrops rise around the town. They leave open, irregular gaps in the map, and roads curve around their edges.
The main road runs through the town and is the axis along which it has grown. Shops and markets are concentrated along it.
The river passes near Ramanagara and adds a winding line to the landscape between the town and the surrounding hills.

Closepet suits people from Ramanagara and its silk trade, film fans who know the Sholay rocks, and anyone who has driven the road between Bengaluru and Mysuru. The granite hills make a striking composition.
Use the title for Closepet, Ramanagara or a family name, add a date, and keep the coordinates underneath. Choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Sand suits the tone of the granite.
