Eilat occupies Israel's short stretch of Red Sea coast at the head of the Gulf of Aqaba. On the map, the city is a narrow wedge of streets between the sea and the steep, dry mountains behind it. Hotels crowd around the northern beaches and an artificial lagoon, and residential neighbourhoods climb the slopes in curving terraces.
Eilat is one of the few places where four countries are this close together. Aqaba in Jordan lies just across the northern shore, and the Egyptian border at Taba is a short drive south along the coast. The coral reefs off the southern beach draw divers from around the world. The old airport in the middle of the city closed in 2019, when Ramon Airport opened north of town.
An Eilat map poster is defined by edges: the straight shoreline, the abrupt start of the mountains, and the border lines. The white space of the sea and the dense street pattern create strong contrast, so it looks particularly good in Noir.
The city faces a narrow strip of the Red Sea. The coastline runs from the hotel district in the north down to the coral reef beaches in the south.
Residential streets curve along the contours of the mountains. They form tiers of roads that climb away from the sea.
In the northern part of the city, an artificial lagoon and marina cut into the land. Their shapes stand out clearly on the map.
