Hebron lies in the southern West Bank, among the hills south of Jerusalem, and is the largest city in the territory. Its map follows the terrain. The old city fills a valley floor with a tight mesh of alleys and covered markets, while newer neighbourhoods climb the surrounding slopes along roads that curve with the contours.
At the heart of the old city is the site known as the Cave of the Patriarchs or the Ibrahimi Mosque, a place venerated in Judaism, Christianity and Islam as the burial place of Abraham and his family. Hebron is also known for its traditional glassblowing and ceramics workshops, and for the vineyards and orchards on the surrounding hillsides.
