Funafuti is an atoll, and from above it looks nothing like a typical capital. A slender chain of low coral islets curves around a large lagoon, with open ocean on the outside. Most people live on Fongafale, the main islet, which is so narrow in places that the ocean and lagoon shores are separated by only a short walk. A single main road runs along its length.
A large share of Fongafale is taken up by the airstrip, which shows on the map as a long, straight shape running down the islet. Houses and government buildings line the land on either side. Tuvalu is one of the smallest and lowest-lying countries in the world, and Funafuti is often mentioned in discussions of sea level rise because so little of it stands above the waterline.
A Funafuti map poster is mostly water, and that is its strength. The lagoon forms a broad open field, the islets trace a delicate outline around it, and Fongafale carries all the detail. It is one of the most unusual shapes a capital can take, and it looks striking in a minimal style.

The main inhabited islet, a long, very narrow strip of land between lagoon and ocean. Nearly all of Funafuti's streets and buildings sit here.
A straight runway occupying a large part of Fongafale. Its long rectangle is one of the most visible features on the map and doubles as open public space.

Ko e hā ʻa Funafuti
Funafuti is a place few people see in person, which makes its map all the more meaningful to those who have. For Tuvaluans abroad, it is a clear picture of home: a thin line of land holding a whole capital.
Add your own title, subtitle and coordinates line, perhaps in Tuvaluan or with a meaningful year. Choose from five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. The Blueprint style gives the lagoon a calm, oceanic depth.
