Girón lies just south-west of Bucaramanga in the Santander department of Colombia, and today it is part of the city's metropolitan area. From above there are two towns in one. There is a small historic grid of colonial blocks near the Río de Oro, and around it much larger modern neighbourhoods and industrial zones spread along the roads.
Founded in the seventeenth century, Girón kept much of its colonial character: whitewashed houses, cobbled streets, stone bridges and a large church on the main square. The historic centre is protected as a national monument, and it is a favourite weekend outing for people from Bucaramanga.
A Girón map poster brings out this contrast. The old centre appears as a neat patch of small, regular blocks. The newer districts around it follow roads and hillsides in looser patterns, and the Río de Oro winds between them, joining the old town to the valley.
The historic centre is a compact chequerboard of small blocks around the main square, the most orderly and recognisable part of the map.
The river runs past the old town and through the valley, carrying bridges and marking a natural line across the growing metropolitan area.
Around the old core, newer districts spread toward Bucaramanga and along the main highways, showing how the colonial town became part of a larger city.

This map suits people from Santander, couples who married in the old church, or anyone who has spent a slow afternoon in the colonial centre. The small historic grid within the modern growth makes a satisfying picture.
You can personalise the title, the subtitle and the coordinates line, for example with a wedding date or a family name. Choose from five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand.
