Ridge-top streets

Grarem, often called Grarem Gouga, is a town in Mila Province in northeastern Algeria. It sits in hilly terrain, and the map reflects that: streets follow ridges and slopes, blocks are irregular, and the built-up area spreads in lobes rather than as a single neat shape.
The wider area is known for water. The Beni Haroun dam, the largest reservoir in Algeria, lies in the same province, and the valleys around Grarem belong to that river system. On a map, the region is marked by folded hills, winding roads and the long, branching outlines of water filling the valleys.
A Grarem map poster turns this uneven ground into a textured, organic composition. There is no grid to lean on here, only streets finding their way across the terrain and rural roads threading between hills. In monochrome, it reads as a quiet study of a town shaped entirely by its landscape.
The town's streets follow the lie of the land, running along ridges and down slopes, which gives the plan its irregular, branching outline.
Grarem belongs to the river valleys of Mila Province, the area of the Beni Haroun reservoir, whose long arms reach deep into the surrounding hills.
Roads leaving the town bend repeatedly around the terrain, drawing long curved lines across the otherwise open countryside.

Ko e hā ʻa Grarem
People from Grarem often live far from it, and a map of the town's streets is a quiet, precise reminder of home. The irregular shape makes it look distinct from any other place.
