The Great Ocean Road runs along the southwest coast of Victoria, Australia, from Torquay to near Warrnambool, a distance of roughly 240 kilometres. For much of the way it stays close to the shore, winding around headlands and through small towns such as Lorne and Apollo Bay. It then turns inland behind Cape Otway before returning to the coast.
The road was built between 1919 and 1932 by servicemen returning from the First World War and dedicated to those who died in it, which makes it one of the largest war memorials in the world. Beyond Princetown, the limestone cliffs of Port Campbell National Park have worn into the stacks known as the Twelve Apostles and gorges such as Loch Ard.
A Great Ocean Road map poster reads as a long ribbon more than a single place: a thin, restless line between the Southern Ocean and the Otway Ranges. River mouths and small town grids appear along it at intervals, and in the west the coastline turns ragged where the sea has cut deep into the cliffs.
Here the road turns inland to cross the Otway Ranges, while a side road runs down through the forest to the lighthouse at the tip of the cape.
Limestone stacks stand off the cliffs near Port Campbell. It is the most famous stretch of the route and the point where the coastline starts to break into fragments.
Between Torquay and Apollo Bay, towns such as Lorne sit in small bays where rivers meet the sea, each a compact grid on an otherwise wild shore.

Road trips leave strong memories, and this map holds a whole journey in one frame. Use the title for the route or for the family who drove it, the subtitle for the year, and set the coordinates to the lookout where you stopped longest.
The long coastline suits Blueprint and Noir, while Paper and Sand give softer tones, and Classic black & white is also available. Printed posters come on matte paper, with an optional wooden frame, from partners in more than 30 countries.
