Hajira is in Poonch district of Azad Kashmir, in steep hill country near the Line of Control. From above, the terrain shapes everything. Roads follow ridges and valley floors, houses cluster where the ground levels out, and the town's centre forms around a few main routes that meet in the valley. The surrounding land is folded into ridges and ravines, with scattered settlements on the slopes.
The street network is sparse and irregular compared with that of a plains town. Instead of a grid, there are switchbacks, spurs and paths that follow the contours. Streams and seasonal channels run down the valleys and cut into the hills. This gives the map a strong sense of relief, even though the drawing is flat black lines.
