Huangpi is a district in the north of Wuhan, in Hubei province, and its main town lies on the plain north of the Yangtze. On the map it looks very different from central Wuhan: a compact town centre surrounded by water, fields and villages. The Sheshui river passes alongside the town, and lakes and ponds fill much of the low ground around it.
Wuhan Tianhe International Airport lies within the district, south of the town centre, and its long runways are among the most geometric features in the wider area. Expressways and rail lines connect Huangpi with the rest of Wuhan, drawing straight corridors through a landscape otherwise shaped by water and farmland.
