Ko e mape
Imola lies on the Via Emilia, the Roman road that runs straight across northern Italy from Rimini to Piacenza. The town began as the Roman Forum Cornelii, and its historic centre still keeps a regular, grid-like plan from that time. From above, the old centre is a compact block of streets, framed by the course of the old walls and anchored by the Rocca Sforzesca fortress.
South of the centre, along the Santerno river, lies the Autodromo Internazionale Enzo e Dino Ferrari. The circuit hosted the San Marino Grand Prix for years and later the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix. It is clearly visible on a map, a long, curving loop that follows the river and wraps around a park.
An Imola map poster has a notable precedent. In 1502, Leonardo da Vinci drew a plan of Imola, often described as one of the first truly accurate maps of a town seen from directly above.
