Ingombota is the central district of Luanda, the capital of Angola, and it contains much of the city's oldest urban fabric. On a map it wraps around the Bay of Luanda, where the waterfront avenue known as the Marginal traces a long, smooth curve along the shore. Behind it, the streets of the Baixa, the lower town, form a dense cluster of blocks that climb toward the higher ground of the Cidade Alta.
The bay is sheltered by the Ilha de Luanda, a narrow sand spit that runs parallel to the coast and separates the harbour from the open Atlantic. On the headland above the bay stands the Fortress of São Miguel, built by the Portuguese in the late sixteenth century and now home to a military history museum. Together, the spit, the bay and the fortress give the district its unmistakable outline.
An Ingombota map poster focuses on the heart of Luanda rather than its sprawling outer districts. The composition is framed by water, with the thin arc of the Ilha, the broad curve of the Marginal and the tight streets in between. The result is an elegant, legible print that captures a capital city at its most recognisable scale.
The waterfront avenue follows the Bay of Luanda in a long, even curve, a clean sweep of road that separates the city blocks from the calm water of the harbour.
The long sand spit across the bay appears as a slender strip of land dividing the sheltered harbour from the Atlantic, joined to the mainland at one end.
The Portuguese fortress on the headland above the bay dates from the late sixteenth century, and its angular bastioned walls stand out clearly among the surrounding streets.

Ko e hā ʻa Ingombota
Ingombota is where many people's picture of Luanda begins: the bay at sunset, the promenade, the old fortress on the hill. For Angolans at home or in the diaspora, the district's map is a compact portrait of the capital and a lasting reminder of place.
The poster can be personalised with a title, subtitle and coordinates line, so it can mark a birthplace, a wedding or a return home. Five styles are available, Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand, as digital files or as a printed poster.
