Kima Kieza is part of the urban area of Luanda, the capital of Angola, lying inland to the east of the city's historic centre and bay. From above, it belongs to the wide belt of neighbourhoods that grew rapidly around the capital in recent decades, where the street pattern is dense and fine-grained, with small plots, narrow lanes and a few wider roads carrying most of the traffic.
Much of Luanda's growth outside the old centre happened quickly and without a single overall plan, and that history is visible on the map. Some areas follow a rough grid, others curve and branch where streets were laid out plot by plot.
