Jacksonville Beach sits on a narrow strip of land on Florida's Atlantic coast, east of Jacksonville. On the map it is framed by water on two sides: the open ocean along the east and the Intracoastal Waterway to the west, which separates the beaches from the mainland.
The town is laid out in a regular grid of streets running east to the shoreline, with longer avenues running parallel to the coast. This produces a neat, ladder-like pattern, stretching north and south along the beach, while bridges across the waterway connect the beaches to Jacksonville.
A fishing pier extends into the ocean, a familiar landmark along the waterfront, and the beach itself runs the full length of town. A Jacksonville Beach map poster captures this simple, striking geography: ocean, sand, grid and waterway, each clearly distinct from above.
The beach runs the full length of the town along the Atlantic, forming a long, smooth edge with open ocean beyond it.
To the west, the Intracoastal Waterway separates the beaches from the mainland, crossed by bridges that carry traffic to Jacksonville.
Streets run in a tidy grid, with numbered cross streets leading straight to the sand and avenues running parallel to the ocean.
