Jawor is a town in Lower Silesia in southwestern Poland, west of Wrocław. Its medieval core is organised around a rectangular market square, and the line of the former defensive walls can still be read in the ring of streets and greenery that encircles the old town.
Jawor is best known for its Church of Peace, a large timber-framed Protestant church built in the mid-seventeenth century after the Thirty Years' War. Together with the Church of Peace in Świdnica, it was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2001. The church stands just outside the old town, with its own grounds visible on the map.
A Jawor map poster shows the compact old town with its central square, the ring of streets around it and the newer districts beyond, crossed by the river valley. It is a clear, balanced plan of a historic Silesian town.
A rectangular market square sits at the centre of the old town, with streets leading out from its corners in the typical pattern of medieval Silesian towns.
A ring of streets and green space traces where the town's fortifications once stood, clearly outlining the historic core on the poster.
The UNESCO-listed timber-framed Church of Peace stands just outside the old centre, surrounded by its own grounds, a notable open space on the map.
