Few European cities show their river as clearly as Wrocław. The Oder splits into several arms here, and between them lie islands such as Ostrów Tumski and Wyspa Piasek, the oldest settled part of the city. The great market square and its central block of buildings form a crisp rectangle. It is the fixed point from which the old town's streets radiate.
