Kam Ying sits in Ma On Shan, the newer eastern arm of Sha Tin district, where planned housing was built on reclaimed land along Tolo Harbour. Seen from above, it looks like a tight arrangement of tower footprints. Service roads, podiums and footbridges link them into one continuous pattern. On one side the harbour's straight, engineered shoreline holds it in place, and on the other the ground rises quickly into the hills.
The contrast is the heart of the Kam Ying map poster. A regular grid of blocks and landscaped courtyards stops abruptly where the contour lines of the mountain crowd together. An elevated rail line runs through the district in a long, smooth curve that follows the shore. Beyond it, a promenade traces the water's edge, and the harbour opens up as a wide, empty field of white.
Ma On Shan grew in the 1980s and 1990s as part of Hong Kong's new town programme, which moved hundreds of thousands of residents out of the old urban core into self-contained districts. Kam Ying shows that approach at a small scale. Homes, schools, transport and open space are packed into a narrow strip of flat land between the sea and the slopes.
A long, deliberately straight waterfront shaped by reclamation. On the map it reads as one clean line with open water beyond, and it frames the whole residential district on its seaward side.
The elevated railway through Ma On Shan draws a smooth curve parallel to the coast, with stations spaced along it. It is one of the few flowing lines in an otherwise rectilinear layout.
Behind the towers the land climbs steeply toward Ma On Shan's peaks. Tightly packed contours and winding trails take over where the streets end, which gives the poster a strong natural edge.

For people who grew up in Ma On Shan or once commuted along that waterfront, this map shows home at a scale no photograph captures: the towers, the shoreline and the mountain together in one frame. It also makes a thoughtful gift for family who have moved abroad.
