Kannad is a town in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district of Maharashtra, north-west of the district's main city, on the Deccan plateau. From above, it has a dense old centre of narrow lanes surrounded by newer residential areas, with the main highway toward the north passing close by before climbing into the hills through the Autram ghat.
To the north of town lies the Gautala Autramghat Wildlife Sanctuary, a stretch of forested hills and ravines at the edge of the Sahyadri ranges. The land around Kannad is otherwise farmed, with fields, wells and streams that run strongly in the monsoon and shrink in the dry season. Villages dot the plain in every direction.
