Kičevo is in western North Macedonia, in a basin surrounded by mountains. The town sits on flat ground at the bottom of the basin, and the slopes rise on all sides, covered with forest and pasture. This gives the map a natural frame: a compact settlement in the middle and contour lines closing in around the edges.
The town has a central area with streets branching out from it, and newer residential areas extend towards the edge of the basin. A small river passes through the area, and roads lead out of the basin through valleys and over passes towards Skopje, Ohrid and Gostivar. A railway line also reaches the town.
