Krychaw Map Poster & Print
Krychaw is a town in the Mogilev region of eastern Belarus, on the river Sozh, not far from the Russian border. It is one of the older settlements in the area. In the late eighteenth century the Krychaw estate belonged to Grigory Potemkin, and his palace still stands in the town. Today Krychaw is known mainly as an industrial and railway centre.
From above, the Sozh is the defining feature. The town occupies higher ground on one bank, while the river's meanders and floodplain meadows spread wide below. Streets in the older part follow the edge of the slope. Later districts of apartment blocks and private houses extend inland in a looser grid, crossed by railway lines.

Rail lines converge on Krychaw and cut straight paths through the town. Their firm diagonals contrast with the curve of the river.
