Kudamatsu is a coastal city in Yamaguchi Prefecture, facing the Seto Inland Sea across the calm waters of Kasado Bay. The town occupies a narrow strip of flat land between the shore and forested hills, so its map has a clear three-part structure: industrial waterfront, dense residential centre and wooded slopes rising to the north.
The city is best known for railway manufacturing. Hitachi's Kasado works builds trains here, including Shinkansen cars and rolling stock exported abroad, and the long factory buildings and test tracks are a distinctive feature of the shoreline. Offshore, Kasado Island is linked to the mainland and adds another curving coastline to the composition.
A Kudamatsu map poster shows how tightly a Japanese coastal town can fit between sea and mountains. Reclaimed industrial land extends into the bay in straight-edged blocks, the Sanyō Main Line runs parallel to the coast, and residential streets fill every level space behind it. In monochrome it looks both orderly and quietly dramatic.
The sheltered bay in front of the city is framed by reclaimed land and the island of Kasado, forming the most striking coastal shape on the map.
The Hitachi rail works occupy a large stretch of waterfront, their long buildings and track sidings a rare and recognisable industrial pattern.
North of the centre, forested hills rise steeply, and the street grid stops abruptly at their foot, drawing a clear line between town and slope.

Ko e hā ʻa Kudamatsu
Kudamatsu means something particular to people who have worked at its factories, grown up by the bay or taken the train along the Inland Sea coast. Its compact, well-defined map makes a strong image for a home or office wall.
Choose your own title, subtitle and coordinates line. The five styles, Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand, range from graphic to gentle, and Blueprint pairs naturally with a city known for building trains.
