Kudat sits near the northernmost point of Borneo, in the Malaysian state of Sabah. Water surrounds it on the map. The town faces a sheltered bay, the wide Marudu Bay lies to the east, and the coast runs north to Tanjung Simpang Mengayau, the headland known as the Tip of Borneo, where the South China Sea meets the Sulu Sea.
The town is compact, with a waterfront, fishing jetties and a small grid of shophouse streets near the harbour. Roads lead inland through coconut plantations and farmland towards villages of the Rungus people, known for their longhouses and beadwork. Kudat has a historical footnote too: it served briefly as the first administrative capital of British North Borneo in the early 1880s.
A Kudat map poster is mostly about the line where land meets sea. In black and white, bays, inlets and mangrove edges take up much of the frame, while the town sits on the shore as a tight cluster of streets. It is an unusually coastal composition, clean and graphic.
The town centre sits right on a sheltered bay, and jetties and waterfront streets trace the shoreline in a compact band.
Tanjung Simpang Mengayau, the northern headland of Borneo, lies a short drive north of town where two seas meet.
East of the peninsula, the wide, shallow Marudu Bay opens up. Its long, indented shoreline adds a broad curve of water to the map.

Ko e hā ʻa Kudat
The map works for anyone who has stood at the Tip of Borneo, grown up near the Kudat harbour, or wants a coastal print with plenty of open water. The shoreline does most of the work, and it looks calm on a wall.
You can personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line and choose from five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Blueprint and Sand are good fits for a coastal map.
