Kiso Three Rivers

Kuwana lies in the north of Mie Prefecture, where the Kiso, Nagara and Ibi rivers, known together as the Kiso Three Rivers, reach Ise Bay side by side. From above, the city is defined by these broad parallel channels and the long embankments between them. The town spreads across the low, flat ground beside them, and reclaimed land stretches toward the bay.
In the Edo period, Kuwana was a post town on the Tōkaidō, the highway between Edo and Kyoto. It was also where the Shichiri no Watashi began, a sea crossing to Miya in present-day Nagoya. Kuwana was a castle town too. The castle site is now Kyūka Park, and its water-filled moats still show up in the centre of the map.
A Kuwana map poster sets the old castle quarter against the vast scale of the rivers and the flat delta land beyond. To the east, Nagashima, also part of the city, sits between the river channels and is known for its large amusement park and hot spring complex. Kuwana has also been famous for its clams for centuries.

The site of Kuwana Castle, now Kyūka Park, keeps its water-filled moats. They appear as neat geometric shapes near the riverfront in the old town.
The old highway's path through the post town can still be traced in the streets. It ends near the riverside landing where travellers once boarded ferries to Miya.

Kuwana suits people who like maps with a strong natural structure. The rivers give the poster a striking graphic quality, while the castle town and the old road add history for anyone who grew up or lived in the area.
