Kyengera is in Wakiso District, just west of Kampala in Uganda's Central Region, and in recent decades it has become part of the capital's expanding urban ring. The town grew along the main road leading southwest toward Masaka. On the map that highway forms a strong spine, with smaller roads branching off it over the surrounding hills.
The land here is typical of the Kampala area: rounded hills separated by low, often marshy valleys. Streets tend to follow ridges and contours rather than a grid, and many neighbourhoods are connected by winding local roads and footpaths. Wetland areas in the valleys remain largely open and appear as blank spaces between the built-up slopes.
Much of Kyengera's growth is recent, driven by families and businesses moving out from central Kampala, and the street pattern still has the loose, branching quality of a place being filled in. A Kyengera map poster records this particular moment in the town's development, showing the main road, the hills and the paths between them.
The main highway runs through the town toward the southwest, giving the map a clear central axis that most other roads connect to.
Local roads trace the tops and flanks of the hills, producing loops and branches that follow the shape of the land instead of straight lines.
Low-lying marshy ground between the hills stays largely unbuilt, leaving open areas that give the dense residential patches a natural frame on the map.
