Lai Vung lies in Dong Thap province in the Mekong Delta of southern Vietnam. The land is flat and crossed by a dense network of canals and small rivers, which divide it into narrow plots of orchards and fields. On a map these waterways form the main structure.
The town centre is compact, with a small network of streets near the main waterways. Beyond it, houses and gardens follow canal banks in long lines, creating a pattern of settlement that stretches along water rather than spreading out in blocks.
Lai Vung is known for its orchards, particularly the pink tangerines sold in large numbers before Tet. A Lai Vung map poster captures the delta landscape: fine lines of canals, strips of land between them and a small urban core, all arranged in a rhythm shaped by water and agriculture.
Canals and small rivers crisscross the area, dividing the land into narrow plots and creating a fine, repetitive pattern across the map.
Long plots of fruit trees follow the waterways, forming parallel bands of land that give the landscape a distinctive texture.
Houses line the canal banks in continuous rows, stretching settlement along the water instead of clustering it in a single centre.
