Lake Charles takes its name from the small, nearly circular lake at its western edge, a widening of the Calcasieu River in southwest Louisiana. On a map the lake is the obvious centrepiece, with the downtown grid pressed against its eastern shore and the river continuing north and south through marshland and bayous.
Interstate 10 crosses the water on a tall bridge that has long been part of the city's skyline, while the ship channel to the south connects the Port of Lake Charles with the Gulf of Mexico. Refineries and petrochemical plants spread across the flat land nearby, and McNeese State University occupies a campus on the south side of town.
The city is known for Contraband Days, a spring festival built on local legends about the pirate Jean Lafitte, and for its resilience after Hurricanes Laura and Delta struck in 2020. A Lake Charles map poster captures the lake, the river and the orderly streets that frame them, a clear and recognisable shape.
A rounded body of water on the Calcasieu River gives the city its name and forms a bold, almost perfect circle at the heart of the map.
The interstate arches high over the river beside the lake, a long diagonal line that ties the east and west banks together on the poster.
Around the city the Calcasieu and its side channels break into bayous and wetlands, adding irregular, organic lines that contrast with the downtown grid.

Lake Charles is a place people come back to, for family, for Mardi Gras, or for work at the port and the plants. A map of the lake and the streets around it makes a strong, graphic print and a meaningful reminder of southwest Louisiana.
Personalise it with a title, a subtitle such as the year you moved in, and your own coordinates line. Choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand, then download the HD files for $9 or order a print with an optional wooden frame.
