Magdalena sits in the western highlands of Jalisco, along the route that links Guadalajara with the state of Nayarit. From above, the town is a small, dense block of streets set in a broad valley. Its edges soften quickly into farmland, dirt tracks and rows of blue agave, with low hills rising on the horizon.
The centre follows the familiar pattern of a Mexican town: a main square with a church, and streets running out from it in a near-regular grid. Farther out, the blocks get looser and less even. The highway runs along one side and pulls a line of newer building with it, which gives the outline a slightly stretched shape.
Magdalena is best known for opals. Mining and cutting the stone have long been part of local life, and the town sits in the wider agave country tied to tequila production. A Magdalena map poster shows that settled core against the empty ground around it, a quiet study of a working highland town.
The oldest streets form a tidy grid around the main square and church. It is the densest part of the map and the clearest sign of the town's colonial layout.
The main road to Nayarit runs past the town and pulls newer blocks along it. On the poster it reads as one strong diagonal against the smaller local streets.
Past the last houses, the map opens into fields and tracks across the valley floor. That empty space makes the compact centre stand out even more.

For people with family roots in Jalisco, or anyone who has bought an opal in town or driven through agave country, the map is a reminder of a particular place. It is small enough to show whole, so the entire town fits on a single sheet.
