Marigliano is a town in the Metropolitan City of Naples, set on the flat agricultural plain that stretches northeast of the city toward Nola. The land here is volcanic and fertile, and the map shows a dense historic core surrounded by fields, orchards and outlying hamlets, with the cone of Vesuvius only a short distance to the south.
The oldest part of town is a tight knot of streets and courtyards, typical of the Campanian plain, where buildings enclose inner spaces and lanes meet at irregular angles.
